Neighbor
Harold and I grew up not more than 100 yards apart. I can't say we were friends, in fact we had a rather antagonistic relationship. I remember the day he came home after his basic training. Harold came over to the house in his USMC uniform, I thought maybe to give myself and my brothers more crap. Nope, that was not it at all, he simply wanted to say hello (and goodbye as he was soon off to Viet Nam). We shook hands.
Well anyway, just a few short months later, we learned of his combat death. I just wish I had tried harder to be his friend. He's a better man than me.
RIP Marine!
