MY PRECIOUS BELOVED BROTHER BILL

You were handsome with your black hair and deep blue eyes. You had a
great personality . You were kind, polite, devoted to family and friends,
so neat, and very smart. You loved science so I envisioned you someday
perhaps being a scientist. You joined the Marines and was so proud to be
one of them. We received a letter from Carl Heniger in which he told us what
happened. A marine was hit and you rushed to help him. While helping him
you were hit in the back of your head. You were gone instantly. You are our
hero and a precious jewel that will always live in our hearts. You live on in
the hearts of your family and friends. I treasure the brief time you were in my
life for you were only twenty years old.
I love you dearly always,
Your sister,
Jane

My brother and my best friend.

It has been many years since we talked. You had your whole life ahead of you only to be taken away on that fateful October day.Your dreams of getting a job, buying a car and raising a family to be taken from you.Freedom is not free.I miss you Bill.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL William Frank Dykes, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
