Thank You

Dear Sgt Dennis Dyer,
Thank you for your service as an Indirect Fire Infantryman. Yesterday was Independence Day, and we remember your sacrifice. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Best man I ever knew.

Dennis was the first man to welcome me to the weapons platoon, A Company, 3/47th Infantry. A couple of weeks later during the TET offensive I witnessed PFC Dyer rescue our pinned down point squad after attempts by others had failed. He was awarded the Silver Star and promoted to Sgt. for his actions. I served as his RTO for a time. Although I only knew him 4 months, he's the best man I ever knew. I've thought of him almost daily since May 17, 1968.
