We Will Remember

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Thank You

Dear Cpl Harvey Duhy,
Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Both your birthday and anniversary just passed. Happy birthday. Independence Day is approaching, and we remember your sacrifice. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Best Friends

Harvey was my best friend while in the Marine corps. We served together at Marine Barracks 8th and I in Washington DC, we received our orders to Viet Nam on the same day, Friday December 31, 1968. We went through jungle training at Camp Pendleton CA. and eventually deployed to Viet Nam on the same day. The last time I saw him is when we said good bye at Da Nang Air Force Base on February 17th 1969 before joining our units.

We wrote letters to each other until one day I received one of my letters back unopened, with the simple notation KIA. It's been 45 years, I still think about him and miss him.

Semper Fi Brother

I remember Harvey as a baseball player in our freshman or sophmore year at Wakefield High in Wakefield, MA.. He hadn't played baseball when he was really young and had difficulty handling a curve ball when he was hitting; But could he drive a fast ball! He would hit rockets right out of sight. When Harvey took batting practice we all watched. He was a big strong kid, kind of quiet as I can recall.

Harvey was a brother Marine to me. He died about a year after I was released from active duty; I was sad to hear that news of his death and even after all these years, whenever I think of Harvey, I still feel sad about what happened to him.

If I could see him now, I would say Semper Fi Brother and he would smile and respond with "Semper Fi".

Remembering an American Hero

Dear CPL Harvey Albert Duhy Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for the ultimate sacrifice that you made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. And please know that men and women like you have stepped forward to defend our country yet again, showing the same love for country and their fellow Americans that you did- you would be proud.

With respect, and the best salute that a civilian can muster for you.

Curt Carter (son of Sgt Ardon William Carter, 101st Airborne, February 4, 1966, South Vietnam)
