A picture of my neighbor

I remember the shock of seeing Bob's picture in the local paper. My mother sent me the papers when I was at State University of Stony Brook and I was in my Sophomore year. I grew up with Bob - he and his sister lived on the next street to us in North Lindenhurst. We rode the same school buses. He dated girls in the neighborhood. He was a big guy but sweet and gentle. So much wanted to be liked and counted on. I remember from the article that he never made the beach -he was killed in the first attack. I cried for him. Vietnam had seemed so far away until that day.
