A friendly shout from the old neighborhood.

Dear Franco, I was still a young kid when you went off to Vietnam. You, your brother E, and my older brothers J. and E. were all friends who grew up on the same street, and I was friends with your younger brother J. The 6 of us grew up in the old neighborhood in working class Passaic on Highland and Barbour Ave. My brother enlisted the same year we lost you. He came home from his service in the military. But all of us mourned your loss and wish you could have come home safe to your family too. I remember I went to Washington for the Vietnam Veterans wall dedication and brought home your name etching. We gave it to your mom, as hard as that was for her and us. Now all these years later I still think about your loss and how deeply it affected all of us. We will always remember you Franco, my own kids were told about you when we paid our respects at the wall memorial more recently. We miss you, your kind mother, and your good dad but take reassurance in knowing that you are all together in god's good grace. A heartfelt greeting and gratitude to have known you from your 3 other "brothers" from the old neighborhood.

Thank You

Dear PFC Franco Diani,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. You are on the same panel as Mike, say hi to him in heaven. It is Mother's Day, and I wish you all were here with your moms. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
