Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Robert John Achas, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Griffin High School classmate 1962

To all visitors stopping here by accident or to pay respects as I do now mine.

Be known that Bob and I signed up for the Marine Corp 90 day delay plan before graduating from Griffin High school in Springfield, Illinois in 1962 which would give us up to 90 days before having to ship out to boot camp.

I was impulsive and wanted to go in as soon as possible but Bob wanted to wait and spend time with his family and other friends so I went to see the Air Force recruiter and he convinced me to join the USAF and go to school for B-52 Bomb Navigation school.
I agreed and three days later was in the St. Lewis, MO induction center and heading for boot camp in San Antonio, TX and then on to technical training in Denver, CO and to my final base in Blytheville, AK where I completed my USAF service. I served from 24 Jul 62 - 22 Jul 66 and never saw Bob again.

It is with great regret that it took me 35 years to spend the time to pay my respect to someone who gave their life for this country that I might be able to pay this humble homage.

Bob, May GOD guide you through eternity and may we meet once again where time is endless.
