do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Last conversation

I'm MAC (Vietnam name) and I served with 1/5 25th Div HHC. The first and last conversation we had. You had been assigned to the 1/5 25th HHC 4 Duce Squad. As one of the Squad leaders, you were not assigned to me. Being with the unit for less than a week we didn't have any time to talk or get to know each other. You approached me asking to take my place on the supply convoy. You were concerned about your wife and some paper work correction that was not taken care of. It was my time to go into the base camp for the unit resupplies from the PX. I could tell your concern for your wife and family and the importance of getting this done. That day you took my place. With a list of what the guys wanted and the promise to get everything I felt I could trust you and this would be a good start for the unit to trust you. I told you to get your shit, take care and get on the APC. Less than 30 minutes, we felt the bomb and saw the smoke. I knew that second what had happened. I have remembered that day and every detail that followed. A 3-minute conversation changes two strangers' lives forever. So many years later I can now tell this story.

THANK YOU

Dear CPL James Devaney,
Thank you for your service as an Indirect Fire Infantryman. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
