Bronze Star Medal Award for Valor

Captain Jerry David Denny was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, with Combat Distinguishing Device (V), for his exemplary gallantry in action. He was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Merit for his sustained meritorious service. He served as a Strategic Intelligence Staff Officer and was assigned to HHC, 1ST BDE, 25TH INF DIV.

I was there that day

I served with Charlie Co., 3rd/22nd infantry, 25th Infantry Division. We witnessed the downing of Capt. Denny's helicopter. I am still haunted by the helplessness of the guys in our unit as we saw it go down. The chopper was flying in to drop chemicals on the NVA soldiers who were massed in that location. They were attempting to minimize casualties in our ground unit and I thank them for their heroism.
