Ground Casualty

SP4 Thaddeus Dennis was a military policeman serving with B Company, 720th MP Battalion, 89th MP Group, 18th MP Brigade. Near midnight on April 11, 1971, Dennis and another MP were conducting a prisoner transfer from Binh Thuy Airfield to Can Tho Base Camp where they were to take a flight to the U.S. Army stockade at Long Binh. While enroute to collect the prisoner in a M151A1 1/4-ton truck (jeep), the vehicle overturned along a flat, straight section of Highway LTL-27 two miles northwest of Can Tho City. Dennis was critically injured in the accident. He was taken to the 3rd Surgical Hospital in Binh Thuy where he expired. The other MP reportedly suffered a broken collarbone and concussion. The cause of the accident was unclear. A weapon Dennis carried (.45 pistol) was not recovered from the crash scene.
