Dear Lcpl Rick Deeds,
Thank you for your service as an Assault Amphibious Vehicle Crewman. It is so important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

It has been almost 50 years since we lost you but the heartache is just as strong as ever you are always in are hearts we love and miss you more than words can express.

Rick and I grew up together and he, I and his sister Sandy were very close. It has been a long time and I know that if he were still here we would still be friends. RIP my friend and know that this Memorial Day I dedicated my new Flag on my Flag Pole to you.

Contrary to what has been posted; I am making some corrections for the historical records . Ricky and I stood many a nights of perimeter watch and patrols together. Ricky was a member of 2nd Platoon, Company B, 1st Amphibian Tractor Battalion. I was Ricky Deeds' fire team leader on the 20th of January 1968. Ricky only had a couple of more months left in country. We had just dismounted from our LVTs and Gunny Richter had told us to spread out before a frag got us all. We immediately came under heavy small arms fire, hit the deck,and began advancing toward a tree line, when we then came under fire from incoming mortars or artillery, and Ricky was hit. Another Marine and I were able to remove Ricky to a Medivac tractor. It was truely a sad day which I can never forget.
