Big Brother ......

You told me everything would be okay .... I was 18 and you were older and wiser .... Sitting up at Camp Roberts during training as newbies .... And you always found a way to find me on Quang Tri Combat base ..... Always assured the "Kid" that all would be okay .... And that day came ..... The day the music died ..... My soul went with you Brother ..... I do miss you so.

Brother I Never Met

My name is Ray S Apellido named after my brother Raymond H Apellido. Raymond passed away many years before I was born but I grew up hearing story's about him and how much I am like him , I even favored the same musical instruments that Raymond played. any way if anybody has any pics of my bro I would love if they would share with me [email protected]

Survivor of this event

My name is David Slone. Contrary to some official accounts, a Ranger - me - survived this crash Any family member or soldier who was present that day may contact me at [email protected]

Ray with painted face looked terrifying (and was) in the field and funny and humane back at camp. He is forever in my thoughts from that tragic day, Sept. 20, 1970. It is a trick of fate that I am here and he is there.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Raymond Hugh Apellido, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
