Craig Geis at LZ Ike on June 18, 1969

My 1st cousin was at LZ Ike on June 18, 1969 when the enemy attacked at around 2:00 a.m. I would imagine that he was under John's command?

Remembering An American Hero

Dear Captain John De Mey, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

If I should die...remembrances for CAPT. John DeMEY, USA...who made the ultimate sacrifice!!!!!!!!!!

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchnace, may therein comfort you.

1st Air Cav D 2/5 Company Commander June 1969

He was Captain for a short time of D 2/5. I was told he died from a rocket or mortor round that hit his command bunker while he was giving orders over the radio to his company defending LZ Ike in Tay Ninh Providence. At the time he was killed the LZ was being attached by 500 NVA, the defense was 150 Air Cav Soldiers of which about 120 were under his command. He was an aggressive and brave commander.
