Mike, You Still Sing in My Mind

Before we both went to Infantry OCS at Benning, I remember you and I standing
In snow flurries on a freezing day at a rifle range during FT. Jackson Infantry AIT. We were all Private E-2's standing around a bonfire trying to stay warm and signing the songs of our day at the top of our lungs. Our favorite was 'California Dreamin (...on such a winters day). I can still hear your voice in my mind Mike. After OCS we parted ways and one day shortly after I got to Vietnam I picked a Stars and Stripes and saw your name as KIA. I felt a sadness that has never gone away. You were a good soldier and friend and whenever California Dreamin, The Mamas and Papas pops up on the radio, I think of you Buddy. God Bless you Mike,, hope I see you in heaven-if I am lucky enough to get in. Cafifornia Dreamin Mike.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear 2LT Michael David De Camp, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Memorialized

3 boys from our high school class who grew up together died within six months of each other in Vietnam. On June 26, 2004, a beautiful memorial was dedicated in their memory at our school. Many dear friends and family were there.
Thanks to all who remember. None of us exist except in the hearts of those who love us. Michael is much loved; he lives.
