The following was taken from an article in the September 16, 1970 issue of the Lincoln Times News:
Sgt. Dennis Daves Is Killed in Vietnam
Sgt. Dennis Lee Daves, 21, was killed in action in Vietnam Sunday Sept. 13.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Drum Funeral Home pending notification from the Army as to when the body will be brought here.
Sgt. Daves' widow, Mrs. Joyce Norman Daves, who lives on Route 4, Lincolnton, received word Tuesday that he had been killed in action by hostile forces, while on a military mission in Vietnam. Sgt. Daves was assigned to the 1st Bn, 7th Calvary(sp), 1st Calvary(sp) Division.
He entered the Army in April of 1969, and was sent to Vietnam in June, 1970. Sgt. Daves attended Lincolnton High School and before entering the Army was employed at J.P. Stevens, Co.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Daves, Route 4, Lincolnton, and a sister, Dana Sue Davis(sp?).
