Attack on FSB Kien - May 31, 1970

On May 31, 1970, B Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, was at FSB Kien, a 25th Infantry fire support base named after an Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) general, four miles southeast of Dua Tieng Base camp in Binh Duong Province, RVN. At 7:30 PM, the base received six 82mm mortar rounds, and then another fifteen rounds 20 minutes later. An infantryman from B/2-14, PFC Joseph P. Dastoli, was killed instantly after suffering fragmentation wounds to the head and body. Another four U.S. personnel were wounded in the attacks. The Americans responded with artillery fire and Light Fire Teams (helicopter gunships) on suspected enemy positions with unknown results. Thank You

Dear Cpl Joseph Dastoli,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Passover just began and today is Easter. Happy Easter. It is so important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL Joseph Peter Dastoli, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Never forgotton

Sleep well my dear cousin. Never to grow old. You are missed and remembered by all you "team" in Nam. You were the good guy, the clown, the one to bring a a smile to many. You were also a brave one. You gave your final act of valor to prove it. I think the only mistake was not being in the Marines with me. You did your duty well and you are to be proud of...and I am. I miss you!
