Misadventure (Friendly fire)
LCPL Emmit C. Dansby was a radio operator serving with E Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division. The 11th Marines artillery units provided supporting fires for 1st Marine Division reconnaissance teams, Combined Action Platoons, units of the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, Civilian Irregular Defense Groups (CIDG), Republic of Korea Marines, and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) units, and forward observers accompanying these units while operating within the Division area of responsibility. On May 12, 1968, Dansby died in a friendly fire incident in Thua Thien Province, RVN. He reportedly was attached to a Marine unit conducting a patrol when he was struck in the left temple by fire from a friendly helicopter after the patrol made contact with the enemy.
