Battle Hill 48

I served with "I" 3/26 a same time Cronkite served. I was there for Battle Hill 48 which is where he was KIA. 2900 NVA vs. 500 Marines. We were first company up the hill and it was a slugfest from first shot until the NVA pulled out. Read AMBUSH VALLEY by Eric Hammel. Listen to song BATTLE OF HILL 58 by Gary Hammond for good overview of action. RIP Cronkite. You fought a good fight.

Wayne Williams "I" 3rd Bn 26th Marines

I will never forget the date of 9/10/67. We were the first going up Hill 48 when we were met by a regiment of NVA (about 2900). We had an understrengthed battalion (about 500 or less) Marines. The fighting was intense but we held. We lost 35 good Marine and Navy Corpsmen that day. A day I will never forget. Read a book by Eric Hammel for a great blow-by-blow account. Title AMBUSH VALLEY. Listen to a song by Gary Hammond for a 4 minute trip through hell. BATTLE OF HILL 48 (Youtube. Didn't know this Marine but you can be proud of him. I am.
