Final Mission of GM3 Gary L. Crampton

SN Richard C. Adamo and GM3 Gary L. Crampton were crewman on the U.S. Navy Harbor Utility Craft YFU-4. On February 28, 1968, YFU-4 was in a flotilla proceeding up the Cua Viet River to Dong Ha when attacked by North Vietnamese Army rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), automatic weapon, and mortar fire off Thanh Xuao in Quang Tri Province, RVN. An RPG hit the starboard 20mm gun which was manned by GM3 Crampton and SN Adamo. Both sailors died after suffering massive shrapnel wounds. Another seven crewmen were injured in the attack, two critically. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and navsource.org]

THANK YOU

Dear GMG3 Gary Crampton,
I hope your photo is put here because this is a wall of faces and yours should be here. Thank you for your service as a Gunner's Mate (Guns) 3rd Class. It is Presidents' Weekend, and good time to remember those who serve. It is so important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

If any Family members or Friends of Gary's reads this, I am looking for a picture of him to send to W.DC for the Vietnam Veterans memorial Wall. It would be nice to have a picture of him to put with his name. Military or H.S. picture will do.
