My Father In Law

Andy,
I never met you. I fell in love with your daughter in 1975 and eventually got around to marrying her. We kept Betty going until 1997, when, having been with your four wonderful grandkids, she decided to join you, bowling with God. She threatened to verbally slap you around for leaving her with "those kids." "Those kids" turned out awfully good, with some help from Ann and Wayne. The abuse probably lasted 10 seconds.
We meet with your brothers of the 71st, 17th and 18th Special Operations Squadrons every year. Of your crew, we sometimes are with Chandler and Bokern, and we all mourn Lubbers, Knowles, Jeszeck, Fage and Vangeslisti. We have visited with you chiseled in stone in Montana, and at the memorials at Hurlburt, Wright-Patterson and The Wall. It's not enough; your grandchildren know what you did. One, given a school web project, built a memorieal to you.
This Memorial Weekend, 2017, I remember yet again Major Anderson.
With love, your son in law,
Tim

Remembering An American Hero

Dear Major Meredith Glenn Anderson, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

I Don't Know You

I don't know you. I don't know your family. And I can't truly understand your sacrifice. Despite all this, I thank you for what you have done. I don't know your story, but I know you were brave enough to fight this fight, and that is brave enough for me to honor you. You have lost your life, but your memory will continue on. Not many people know you, but for what it's worth, I now know your memory, and I'll remember you and your sacrifice.

Thank you.
