Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Mary Frye – 1932

Thank you for your service

I knew Hank as I worked at the Naval Air Station in Alameda where he was stationed. One day we were all sitting around talking and he told us about a man who owned "The Last Chance" in Jack London Square who seemed to remember the name of every military person who came into his establishment. Hank was so amazed at his memory that he asked me to be sure and tell him if something were to happen to him. When I found out that his plane had gone down, I did as Hank as asked. The man was extremely sad as we all were.

If I should die...remembrances for CDR. Henry Albert COONS, USN...who died so we may remain free!!!!

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
