My visit to Washington

I didnt know you. You were gone before I was even born. I was in D.C. in 1993 and visited the Wall Memorial. I was 17 at the time. I knew I could never remember all the names of so many who gave all they had, so I decided to pick just one, and to never forget it. It was your name. Not for any special reason. Peter isn't my name. Nor my father's, or even anyone I know. For some reason your name stood out to me, Peter E Cook. A name will always remember, I told myself that. I'm 44 now. Probably twice as old as you were when you gave all you had to give, but I never forgot your name. And I never will. I told myself that someday I would learn all I could about you, and all these years later, we actually have the means to do so. Thank you for your service Pfc. Cook.
