Ground Casualty

PVT Christopher C. Cook was a military policeman serving with the 188th MP Company. His company provided security for a provisional stockade and served as bunker guards at Camp David Land, west of Da Nang (south of Hill 327, aka “Freedom Hill”), Quang Nam Province, RVN. Bunker Seven, a large sandbagged, corrugated metal and plywood mini-fortress with an M2 Browning .50 machine gun, was the dedicated party center on base. On July 15, 1971, after a pre-party on Bunker Seven, PVT Cook and a companion continued their inebriation in Cook’s hooch. After smoking marijuana, snorting heroin, and downing either Jack Daniels or Johnny Walker, Cook passed out. He died of asphyxiation after drowning in his own vomit. The Army coded his casualty as “accidental self-destruction.” Cook was 19 years-old. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and an anonymous source]
