Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

As long as you are remembered you will never die...

To Jerome and Pat

We arrived in country on December 13, 1967, we went to Cu Chi on the 14th, The 27th was our first day in the field, we were told it was a training exercise (?). We got ambushed and lost two me KIA outright with I believe 7 more wounded, we pinned down and we started burning when the grass caught on fire (you didn't dare stick your head up). To man we were praying to God for salvation when the helicopter showed up like an avenging angel, everybody cheered. The chopper made a pass at about 40 or 50 feet and circled back around, I could see the door gunner cocking the M60 when the blooping sound of an M79 grenade launcher went off. The chopper exploded and blew up jettisoning the door gunner in flames and killing the rest of the crew. This was a loss of innocence not recoverable, things would never be the same in any of our lives again, these brave men came to save our lives at the cost of their own. It is not possible that we could ever forget them.
