Final Mission of SP4 David A. Vicario

SP4 David A. Vicario served with C Company, 6th Battalion, 31st Infantry, 9th Infantry Division. Soldiers from 6/31 Infantry arrived in Vietnam in April 1968 and assisted in the recapture of Saigon’s suburbs during Phase II of the Tet Offensive in May 1968. Assigned to the 9th Infantry Division, 6/31 Infantry conducted operations in the Mekong Delta and the Plain of Reeds region near Cambodia. On December 21, 1968, Vicario was wounded while serving in Dinh Tuong Province. He was returned to the United States and medically discharged from the Army. On November 17, 1996, Vicario died from the injuries he suffered in Vietnam. He was forty-eight years old. His name was added to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in May 1999. Obituary

David A. Vicario, 48, of Quaker Lane, director of the National Crime Information Center Operations Unit of the Rhode Island State Police, died Sunday in Kent County Hospital. Born in Providence, a son of Alfred L. and Elinor R. (Eastwood) Vicario, he lived in Warwick for the last four years. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War earning a Purple Heart and receiving commendations for meritorious service. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. Mr. Vicario worked for the Rhode Island State Police for the last 25 years. Besides his parents, he leaves two daughters, Gina Williams of Needham, Mass., Jessica M. Vicario of Providence; two brothers, Stephen and Robert Vicario, both of Providence and a grandson. A graveside service will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Swan Point Cemetery, Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, with full military honors.
