Michael Lafe Ackerman
He moved in 1967 from Berkley to Traverse City where he was a printer at Kwik Print of Traverse City and Cadillac. He graduated from Traverse City High School in 1969. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Army. He served as a medic with the l0lst Airborne Division in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971, attaining the rank of E-5. He was awarded the Silver Star, the third-highest award for valor in combat on April 27, 1970, while serving with the 502nd Infantry in Thua Thien Province. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Born in Highland Park on Feb. 18, 1951, he was the son of Blaine L. and Barbara A (Taylor) Ackerman. Surviving are two sons, Jason D. Ackerman of Traverse City and Michael R. Ackerman of• Berkley; a daughter, Amy T. Ackerman of Berkley; his parents, Blaine and Barbara Ackerman of Traverse City; two brothers, Blaine W. Ackerman of Traverse City and Mark J. Ackerman of Cadillac; a sister, Beth Anne Ackerman of Traverse City; many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, David D. Ackerman; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Taylor; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Ackerman.
