Biography

Dennis Frank Arena was born on May 28, 1945. His family moved to Long Island from the Bronx when he was about 10. He graduated from Plainedge High School in 1963 and immediately joined the Navy and was sent to serve in the Vietnam War. His time there was long and scary like it was for so many other people, but he loved his country. When he returned home, he unfortunately had many traumatic episodes. He pulled himself together and made a career in the wine and spirit industry for 43 years.

He looked up to his dad and grandfather as a strong role model for himself.

In 1984 while working he met his future wife, Maryann. They married in 1986 and had two daughters Jillian and Denise. They made a happy life on Long Island. Dennis was proud to have served his country, which he spoke about frequently. He volunteered for many years as a coach in many different sports with children. He also was an avid volunteer at his local church for many different organizations associated with the church. He loved fishing and meeting up with childhood friends. During his entire life the memories of the Vietnam War played a very big part in his everyday life. He started to get sick which brought us into the New York city hospitals twice a year for procedures and checkups due to the exposure of Agent Orange.

He was blessed with 5 Grandchildren, 3 grandsons which he was able to meet and interact with and two granddaughters born shortly after he passed. His life was cut short due to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma which immediately progressed to Mantle Lymphoma. He died September 27, 2021.

When someone said hi how are you, he smiled and responded with "LIVIN THE DREAM"
