Biography

Barry left this world with no regrets. He grew up in Brooklyn, NY as the only child of Maurice and Charlotte Wenz. Barry came from modest beginnings and was the first person in his family to attend college. He lost his father at an early age but went on to graduate from Hahnemann Medical School at the top of his class. An illustrious and productive career would follow; however, those aspirations were put on hold when he honorably and willingly served his country during the Vietnam War as Chief of Medicine for a mobile surgical hospital in Chu Lai, and later at Fort Belvoir in Virginia as the Head of the Clinical Outpatient Department. It was his dedication and service to this country that ultimately ended his life due to exposure to Agent Orange. Barry was a fierce supporter of military personnel, but rarely discussed his service.

Barry's medical specialty was hematology and clinical pathology, and his passion was research science. Prior to retiring, he was the Director of Clinical Laboratories for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center Hospital System. He was a full professor at the college and published several hundred professional journal articles. Barry was also the Medical Director, Head of Medical Marketing, and Director of Scientific and Laboratory Services for Pall Biomedical, where he held a variety of patents related to medical devices that Pall marketed.

Barry had many talents and interests and was fluent in three languages. Regardless of his achievements and status in life, he was a humble, down-to-earth person, with a strong work ethic, and a helpful spirit.

Barry is remembered as brilliant, loving, one-of-a-kind, and irreplaceable. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Adele; his daughter Susan; son-in-law Thomas; and four grandchildren Kyle, Matthew, Brian, and Sean.
