James Robert Beemer
James Robert Beemer was born June 25, 1945 in Bedford, Iowa. He was a 1964 graduate of Bedford High School. and a 1968 graduate from Northwest Missouri State University with degrees in business and education. James became a high school teacher and football coach until he enlisted in the United States Army on November 6, 1968. He was assigned to 5th BN 7th CAV 1st AIR CAV USARV. He served with honor and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, and a Combat Infantryman's Badge.
He was honorably discharged on July 15, 1970 and returned to teaching in Chillicothe, Missouri. James then married and had two children and five grandchildren. Upon leaving the teaching profession, he purchased a men's haberdashery and operated the business until a few days before his death on January 25, 2016, just one month after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer believed to be caused by exposure to Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam.
