Biography

Dennis Anthony Zgardzinski was born on October 6, 1947, in Syracuse New York. He grew up in and later resided in Jamesville, New York. In 1967, at the age of 19, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served in Khe Sanh as a weather observer. He also served in Danang and other places during his tour. He was a multi-medal recipient including the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Air Force Commendation Medal and Two Purple Hearts. After returning from the war, he served several years in the National Guard reaching the rank of Sergeant. Dennis also became a volunteer fireman and enjoyed bowling and playing softball. He was an accomplished archer and avid outdoorsman. He had many jobs in his life but his passion was dairy farming. He ended his working career retiring from Tractor Supply Co. as a Manager. In his retirement he enjoyed trap shooting and traveling and spent his final years in Penn Yan in the Finger Lakes region of New York. According to his VA doctors, several ailments related to agent orange exposure contributed to his death on September 14, 2020. They included: heart disease, diabetes and non-alcohol related cirrhosis of the liver. Dennis was proud of his Vietnam service and could always be seen wearing a Vietnam veteran hat, shirt or jacket. He is and always will be missed by his family and friends as he was a "larger than life presence".
