A Short Biography of the Life and Military Service of Thomas Frank Ferreira Thomas Frank Ferreira was born on June 18 th, 1947 the eldest child of Francisco and Juanita Ferreira in the city of New Bedford Massachusetts. He had 4 younger siblings two brothers Theodore and Francisco Jr. and two sister Juliette and Victoria Tom was in the ROTC while in high school. He got his inclination for military service from his father who was a WWII Army veteran who server his country for 32years retiring at the rank of Colonel. He got married to Nancy Davis in May 1969 and was married for l0yrs and 8 months till his passing. Tom was known as "Farze" to his friends of which he had many. Tom was a good person and great guy who loved a good laugh and good times with his family and friends Tom enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 22, 1965, the same month he graduated from High School Tom earned the rank of Sergeant (ES) while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve. While on active duty he served in the 3rd Battalion 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He served active duty for a total of 3 years, 11 months and 29 days, with a total of 1 year and 17 days overseas 1967 to 1968 in the Vietnam War where he served in a reconnaissance patrol division. He then transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve, retiring from the military on January 1, 1970. While stateside he was stationed at Quonset Point, RI as well as the 1st Marine Corps District in long Island NY. Sgt Ferreira received the following medals: The Naval Achievement with Combat "V" Good Conduct Medal National Defense Service Medal Vietnam Service Metal with 1960 device Vietnam Campaign Medal with 3 Stars The Presidential Unit Citation Combat Action Ribbon. Thomas Frank "Farze" Ferreira passed away on February 2, 1980 at the age of 32 after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer. He is greatly missed by his family and friends to this day.
