James Albert Tufts
James Albert Tufts was born Feb. 19, 1942 in Lewiston, Maine, The son of Linwood and Vera (Strout) Tufts. He graduated from UMA with an associate degree in human services. He joined the U.S. Army from 1960 -1963 as a Medic, and then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1965 – 1971 as a Heavy Equipment Operator and serving two tours in Vietnam from 1968 - 1970. After serving in the military, he pursued his love for truck driving. July 10, 1970, he married Anita Verrill and settled in Oxford Hills and had 6 children and 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, they celebrated 48 years of marriage in July 2018. James was a loyal member of the VFW post No. 9787 of South Paris and a lifetime member of the DAV and a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was incredibly proud of his service to his country. He also loved country music, always singing and whistling and enjoyed carpentry, building furniture and toys for all the kids. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was passionate in teaching his children and grandchildren new things. Loved driving and taking road trips with the family. He passed away at the age of 76, on Dec. 28, 2018, at Androscoggin Hospice House after a 15-year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis caused by exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam along with PTSD. He lived life to the fullest until the end and will be greatly missed and always loved by his family and friends.
