John Franklin Glenn, Sr., 87, of Springfield, MO passed away at his home September 6, 2018 with his family gathered by his side. He was born in Springfield, MO on February 21, 1931 to Flossie Taylor and Clarence Glenn. John married Georgina Elizabeth Davidson on August 1, 1953 and to this union three children were born. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage until she passed on December 26, 2013. He served his country for 22 years in Air Rescue before retiring from the U.S. Air Force. John served three tours in Vietnam serving as a HB34B Huskie crew member helping to recover downed air crews. During one of his tours, he was based out of Bien Hoa, Saigon and in 73 days he flew on 142 missions. He received the following citations for his service in Vietnam: • National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star (Korean War & Vietnam War) • Presidential Unit Citation February 11, 1966 • Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster January 6, 1963 through January 5, 1969 • Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal January 5, 1967 • Combat Readiness Medal January 6, 1966 through January 5, 1969 • Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars January 6, 1964 through January 5, 1969 • Republic of Vietnam Citation with Palm September 1965 through April 1966 John is survived by his three children Mary Gilmore of Marshfield, MO; Patricia Stark (husband Steven) of San Antonio, TX; and John Glenn, Jr. (wife Roxanna) of Rogersville, MO, three brothers Bill, Gene and Jimmy, one sister Lee, 6 grandchildren Amanda, Christina, Renee, Valerie, Dustin and Johnathon, 11 great-grandchildren and many friends and family.
