Bobby Gerald Mabou
Bobby Gerald (Pops) Mabou was born June 25,1946 in Alexandria,LA. He grew up in Deville,LA . Graduated from Buckeye High School, and age 18, joined the Marines which was his longtime desire. He left for Camp Pendleton, CA, March 1966. After Basics, his unit shipped out for Nam, his tour was sept 1966-Dec 1967. He returned to Camp Pendleton ,6 months later he married Jo Tuma on June 15,1968.They lived in Fallbrook, CA until his discharge in June 1969. Their union brought forth 2 children (Joey and Jessica), 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. During his tour in Nam, he was wounded Mar. 23, 1967, at Beacon Hill, for which he received his Purple Heart. He served with 3rd Marine Battalion, 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division... at the DMZ , Da Nang , Beacon Hill and other places. Back in LA., he worked and retired from Rapides Parish Sheriff Dept. for 25+ years. He was well respected as a Vietnam veteran and deputy. Co-workers said they felt secure with Mabou,and he always had their backs. Two of his favorite things were working with Special Olympics and Torch Run. He was a avid hunter and camper...also loved watching his children and grandchildren participating in their sports. He was their biggest cheerleader. Bobby was a member of Sts Francis &Ann Catholic And Knights of Columbus. He volunteered security for the annual Steubenville South High School Conference in Alexandria. His legacy is a strong faith in God, patriotism, love of country and our Flag, family and friends. He stressed love and respect should always be shown in all aspects of life. He passed 9/22/15. He is greatly loved and missed.
