Biography

Joe was born on September 8, 1947 in Iowa City, Iowa to Joe H. and Marion Byrd. He graduated from high school in 1964 and was commissioned in the United States Army upon graduation from Texas A & M University. After Viet Nam service, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, he began a 35-year career in the petrochemical construction industry. He served in various critical roles in the executive management of Byrd Engineering, Callie Construction Company, and Texas City Fabricating. In addition to his career work, he was actively involved in the local Little League, enjoyed hunting and fishing with his 3 sons, and treasured the time he spent hearing his daughter sing at high school and church events. He also found time to be an active member of the Kiwanis, and was chairman of the Southwest Laborers Health and Welfare Fund, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Mainland Bank of Texas City. Joe was a family man - he was married to Linda Miori for 37 years and is survived by his wife and 4 children, numerous grandchildren and many friends. He passed away on March 16, 2010 as a result of exposure to Agent Orange
