Biography

Omar Dwight Buehrlen was born in Owensville, Missouri on November 19, 1946 to the late Elmer William Buehrlen Sr. and Janafay Buehrlen Jenkins. He attended Buck Elk and Belle Elementary Schools. He graduated from Belle High School in 1964. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1965 and served in Viet Nam from May to November 1968 where he flew missions as a crew chief gunner on a helicopter attached to HML-367, MAG-36, First Marine Wing. He was discharged with a rank of Sergeant from active service in 1968 and remained in the reserves until 1970. Following his discharge, Dwight returned to Millington, Tennessee where he took up residence and married Linda Jean Faulk. He took his apprenticeship as an electrician which was his trade at the time of his death on September 28, 1984 at age 37. His young life was cut short by Sarcoma of the small bowel which was attributed to Agent Orange. He showed great courage in his fight for his life. Dwight was a devoted family man with a tender heart. If friends, neighbors or family asked him for help he would be there to do what he could to help them. He enjoyed the great outdoors and spent a lot of time hunting and fishing. Dwight is survived by his two sons, Omar Dwight Buehrlen Jr., Brian Patrick Buehrlen, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by three brothers, three sisters and his stepfather.
