Harold Fuller
Harold Ray Fuller
Harold Fuller, The Daily Record's former circulation director, died Wednesday after a yearlong health struggle. He finally had to cease his duties here last July to devote his full energies to getting better. A knowledgeable circulator who had also worked at The Fayetteville Observer, Harold was a more remarkable person than many of us fully realized. Either out of modesty or a desire not to relive his combat experiences, he didn't talk much about his military career. He did mention that be spent some time in Vietnam, but volunteered no details. In a later conversation, he mentioned that he had "ridden down" a couple of helicopters. "Ridden down," it turned out, meant he was in helicopters as they were crash landing after being shot down. Most of us at the Record, though we worked with him every day, weren't aware of his valor in combat but we had a little better idea when his obituary came in Wednesday afternoon and listed three tours of duty in the Vietnam War. It also mentioned that his remains will be buried at Arlington National cemetery with full military honors. That just shows there are heroes all around us when we're not even aware of it
