Biography

Rickey Lee Lowe was born on January 16, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma OK to Gene Cortez Lowe and Norma Irene Strojny-Lowe. Rickey graduated from Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, CA in 1967. In 1968 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country as a Rifleman with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines in Vietnam from 1969 – 1970. During his service he graduated from the Vietnamese Language Course at the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA. Rickey’s awards consist of: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/star, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device, and Combat Action Ribbon. He was Honorably Discharged in 1970. On November 24th 1984, Rickey married the former Cheryl Ann Lowe and adopted her son, Christopher M. Lowe. The Lowe Family moved from Oxnard, CA to Cedar City, UT in February 1994. Rickey worked with the Iron County School District as a Bus Driver from 1994 until 2001. In 2001, Rickey began working as a Driver Trainer with the school district until 2006. Rickey was a faithful Christian and was a member of El Rio First Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Cedar City, and Valley Bible Church during various stages of his life. Rickey was very active in the churches he attended and enjoyed being a music leader as well as a Sunday school teacher. Rickey married Sidney Dawn Lowe on July 9th 2006 and they made their home in Las Vegas, NV. He is preceded in death by his father, Gene Cortez Lowe; his mother, Norma Irene Lowe-Strojny; and his wife, Cheryl Ann Lowe. Rickey is survived by his wife, Sidney Dawn Lowe; son, Christopher M. Lowe and his wife Kelly; grandsons, Shooter and Gunner; Step-daughter, Alison Wells; Step-granddaughters, Jasmine and Tiger Lily; Step-son, Nathan Watson; Brother, Derrill W. Lowe and his wife Myrna; brother, Wesley A. Lowe; and many relatives and friends.

Vietnam Days

I had the pleasure of knowing Rick as a young man in the Marina Corps. We studied Vietnamese at the Defense Language institute in Monterey Ca. We then served in Vietnam in different companies. I last saw Rick on one of our fire bases. He always had a tremendous sense of humor. Rest In Peace brother.
