David Joseph Betti
David Joseph Betti was born on December 18, 1949. Born in Bakersfield, CA and age 20 that is where he enlisted in the Marines. He spent his training in Camp Pendleton in San Diego; CA. David enlisted on June 26, 1969 and was assigned to 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. After training he was soon deployed to Vietnam, that’s where he spent thirteen months and fifteen days. David was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon and earned the classification of Corporal E-4. David was highly involved in every Veteran’s activity, fundraiser, or just to lend a helping hand. He was past President, Vice President, Secretary, Board Member, and POW/MIA chairman for the Vietnam Veterans of Ventura County. David had left such a big impression on everyone that he met; he was highly respected in the community. David suffered from severe PTSD, Prostate Cancer, Lung Disease, and Heart Disease. In December 2010, David suffered a Life threatening emergency, he went into cardiac and pulmonary arrest on the operation table, he was hospitalized for three weeks and had to have a tracheotomy in place to be able to breathe. In 2013 he went through another round of radiation for prostate cancer. In April 2015, while David was out walking his faithful Service dog collapsed to the ground, and that was David’s last day living. David had taught so many to help others especially our Veteran’ s and know we all realized that David paid the Ultimate Sacrifice for us American’s to have the freedom we have today.
