IN REMEMBRANCE OF THESE TWO TOP AIR FORCE PILOTS WHOSE NAMES SHALL LIVE FOREVER MORE
Posted for: ERNEST ARTHUR OLDS:
COLONEL

ERNEST ARTHUR OLDS

and

CAPTAIN

ALBERT EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ

ON MARCH 11, 1968

THESE TWO TOP AIR FORCE PILOTS COMPRISED THE

CREW OF AN F4D PHANTOM FIGHTER / BOMBER SENT

OUT ON A MISSION OVER NORTH VIETNAM. THEIR

MISSION AREA WAS A RAILROAD LINE RUNNING

PARALLEL TO THE NGUON NAY RIVER IN QUANG BINH

PROVINCE. AT A POINT ABOUT 5 MILES SOUTHWEST

OF THE CITY OF RON, THEIR AIRCRAFT WAS SHOT

DOWN. OTHER AIRCRAFT IN THE AREA SAW THE

CRASH SITE BUT HEARD NO EMERGENCY RADIO BEEPERS,

NOR DID THEY SEE ANY PARACHUTES INDICATING

THAT ONE OR BOTH OF THE FLIGHT CREW EJECTED

FROM THEIR CRIPPLED FIGHTER JET. BECAUSE OF

THE AREA IN WHICH THE AIRCRAFT WENT DOWN WAS

A POPULOUS ONE, THERE IS NO REASON TO BELIEVE

THAT, IF THE CREW SURVIVED, THE ENEMY DID NOT

KNOW THEIR FATE. THIS AREA WAS NOT CONDUCIVE

FOR RESCUE EFFORTS, ALTHOUGH ONE WOULD HAVE

COMMENCED IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY INDICATION

THAT THE FLIGHT CREW HAD SURVIVED.

ON JULY 24, 1989 REMAINS RETURNED BY THE PRG

TO US CONTROL WERE POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED AS BEING

ALBERT EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ.

HOWEVER,

ERNEST ARTHUR OLDS,

WHOSE NAME WAS ADDED TO THE

VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL

AS OF MEMORIAL DAY IN 1997

WAS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN FEATURED IN THE

8-HOUR EAST GERMAN PROPOGANDA FILM

"BANDITS IN PAJAMAS".

YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN
NOR SHALL YOU EVER BE
