My Special Friend and First Date - See You In Heaven Someday
Posted for: ROBERT NELSON NEWMAN:
Robert - I remember you as one of my first friends in Odessa. Our moms visited prospects for church while you, my sister, and I sat in the car playing as we waited for them. We went to church together for years, and you were my first actual date. We doubled with Ronnie and Barbara, and your granddad drove us. I will never forget the last time I saw you - a Sunday before you were leaving for Vietnam. When you told me, I grew cold inside and knew I might never see you again. I was devastated when Mom called me at college to tell me you had perished. Your funeral was the first one I had attended with a military service - I cried for days but was proud of you for giving your life serving our country. My children and husband have heard me mention you most Memorial Days. Thanks for the memories and bravery.
