| I should have been there with you! | |
| Posted for: BRUCE DAVID KLINGAMAN: | |
| Klink,(Bruce), I was on LZ Professional recovering from severe jungle rot on my feet when you were killed. I heard the commotion over the radio but didn`t know the terrible truth until well into the next day. I was in the third platoon so we really didn`t see each other much but the times we were together were extra special. You were always so "happy go lucky" to a point that I felt safer just being around where you were. You were going to get out of veitnam before me even with staying the extra two months so you could "deros" from the service right from Nam. You had told me that you were from Elizabeth, and that made us instant friends because I was from Orange. I remember when you were face to face with a "gook" and your M60 wouldn`t fire and how you tried to pull out your 45 before the gook could return fire, but his weapon wouldn`t fire either. You were so exhausted that you slumped down when the gook took off. We went after the gook and his two pals. They didn`t get far!! I was only 20 Yards from you but I couldn`t see what was happening beyond you because I was below you in a riverbed. Your face was pale as a ghost when I went past you. That was a rough day for you. I wish I could have said something but I wasn`t thinking, everything happened so fast. I also remember the time you swung a machete too hard and you put a deep gash in your shin and it almost stuck in the bone. You laughed it off even though you were in a lot of pain. I`ll never forget you Klink and I hope to make a trip to the wall to see your name in person. Friends forever, "SHOW" (John Mohs) Spec 4, C/1st/46th/196th, Americal division Vietnam 6/7/69 to 6/6/70 |
