Posted for: LARRY WADE DUKE:
Served with Larry on Okinawa and in RVN, Hill 55 and Camp (?), where he died.
He was on the CH-46 that I should have been on, but I was leaving that day for R&R. The image of Larry waiting to board is burned in my memory, still. I didn't learn of his death until I got back from Hawaii. One night at Co. D, Marine Support Battalion, Sgt Duke, myself, Cpl. Hoffman and Cpl. Tuttle were at the club having WAY too much to drink, making up limericks about each other and the other members of our company. Larrys' is as follows:
"Here's to Duke,that noble puke,
That stately S.O.B.
He goes to the 'ville and drinks his fill,
And sleeps in the Benjo Ditch."

I don't recall any of the others. He was a good guy, a good Marine, and I miss him.
