Hard Chargers of the 1st Bn, 30th FA

1LT Townes was the Leader of an Artillery Forward Observer Team from B Battery, 1st Bn, 30th FA, and was supporting an Infantry Company from the 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. He was Posthumously awarded a Silver Star Medal and the Purple Heart. The 1st Bn, 30th FA was the first 155mm (Airmobile) Battalion deployed to Vietnam (Nov 1965).
