Washington, D.C. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) will host a week of events beginning tomorrow to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The Reading of the Names of the 58,318 service members on The Wall will begin with an opening ceremony on Tuesday, November 7 at 3:45 p.m. with the name reading to begin at 4:00 p.m. and end at Midnight. Name reading will begin again at 5 a.m. on November 8th, 9th, and 10th and last until Midnight each of those days.

The annual Veterans Day ceremony at The Wall will be held on Saturday, November 11th at 1:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The Honorable Chuck Hagel, 24th Secretary of Defense and Vietnam veteran, will provide keynote remarks. Maya Lin, the designer of The Wall, will provide special remarks.

“As we commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, volunteers will read each name aloud and we will keep our promise to never forget those who served and sacrificed all in Vietnam. The Reading of the Names is such a special event to the family and friends of the fallen and we are honored to host this event. Our commemorative events will end with our annual Veterans Day ceremony at The Wall where we will celebrate the legacy of service in this country and honor the sacrifices that our service members and their families have made,” said Jim Knotts, president and CEO of VVMF.  “This is a chance for VVMF, and for all Americans, to honor these veterans and say ‘thank you for your service and welcome home.’”

Knotts will serve as the master of ceremonies for the Veterans Day ceremony. Welcome remarks on behalf of the National Park Service, co-host for the ceremony, will be provided by Ryan Zinke, the United States Secretary of the Interior. Kate O’Hare Palmer, U.S. Army Corps, Vietnam will provide remarks on behalf of The Women’s Memorial.

Special guest, Maya Lin – the designer of The Wall, will give special remarks followed by the day’s keynote speaker, Chuck Hagel. The ceremony will end with the traditional wreath laying by patriotic organizations.
