In early November, Princess Cruises partnered with VVMF to create its first-ever charity cruise to support U.S. veterans. The successful voyage not only provided an unforgettable vacation for hundreds of veterans and their families, but also raised $300,000 in support of the Education Center at The Wall.
Chief Operations Officer of Carnival Corporation & plc Alan Buckelew, a Vietnam veteran himself, joined VVMF later that month for the third annual Build the Center Benefit at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. At the event, he presented VVMF President and Founder Jan C. Scruggs with the donation.
The Education Center will be a state-of-the-art learning facility where visitors will better understand the profound impact the Vietnam War had on their friends and family. It will also feature the faces and stories of the more than 58,000 men and women on The Wall, honoring those who fell in Vietnam, those who fought and returned, as well as the friends and families of all who served.
