At halftime of the Washington Redskins versus the New York Giants game on December 1, VVMF Founder and President Jan C. Scruggs took to the field.
He was joined by Mike Baker, retired Navy Commander Master Chief and Director of the Military Department at GEICO. On behalf of GEICO, Baker presented Scruggs with a check for $25,000. This gift is in support of The Wall That Heals, a traveling museum and half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. GEICO has sponsored this education and outreach program since 2009.
Since its dedication in 1996, The Wall That Heals has visited more than 350 cities and towns throughout the nation, spreading the Memorial’s healing legacy to millions. This donation will ensure that The Wall That Heals can continue its journey in healing Vietnam veterans and their families and in teaching young people about the sacrifice of the Vietnam veterans through 2015.
GEICO, (Government Employees Insurance Company) the third-largest private passenger auto insurance company in the United States, was first formed to insure federal employees and enlisted military members. For the past 27 years, GEICO has recognized exemplary service members through its annual Military Service Award. GEICO is also a sponsor of the Washington Redskins.
