Sean Quinn, an 11th grader at Guilderland High School, has been announced as the winnner of this year's Memorial Day Student Video Contest. In light of Memorial Day, VVMF gave students between grades 4-12 the opportunity to participate in the 2nd annual Memorial Day Video Contest.
The 2015 question was, "What does honor in times of war look like?"
Contestants were challenged to ask a friend or veteran, or simply share different ideas about examples of honor. Videos had to be 5 minutes in length or less.
The winning decision came after a public vote across VVMF's social media platforms, ending on May 4, 2015. Sean and two other finalists, Kealyn Matuszczak and Sharon Cancio had their videos posted on YouTube. The videos were then shared on VVMF's Facebook and Twitter platforms. Sean emerged as the winner with more than 5,000 'likes.'
As winner of the contest, Sean and one guardian will be flown to Washington, D.C. to participate in VVMF's Memorial Day Ceremony at The Wall, where he will recite the pledge of allegiance.
This is the second year for the student video contest. Last year's winner was Bianca Olivieri, who answered the question, "What does Memorial Day mean to me?"
