Service Branch Challenge: VVMF Seeks Help of Volunteers/Veterans Posts

From now until Veterans Day, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) is executing a robust Service Branch Challenge campaign to actively reach out to veterans, active-duty service members and others with a direct appeal to personal loyalties, connections, and pride in a particular branch of military service (Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, or Air Force). VVMF has called on respected military leaders to enlist supporters and appeal to their espirit de corps and good-natured competetiveness.

To get the campaign kicked off, retired General Barry McCaffrey has agreed to lead the charge for the US Army. "The Education Center at The Wall will be a place where our fallen comrades and their stories will live on forever," said McCaffrey. "I'm proud to lend my support and encourage those who love the US Army to get involved. Supporters of the Army are already leading the way, and have donated more than $21,000. I challenge leaders of the other branches to step up to try and catch us."

Education Center at The Wall to be Environmentally Friendly

The Education Center at The Wall, a place on our National Mall where our military heroes' stories and sacrifices will never be forgotten, will be a state-of-the-art green technology building when completed.

The underground facility will include: geothermal wells for heating and cooling, organic compounds and recycled materials used for construction and finishing, and advanced, energy-efficient lighting systems.

"We will sustain the memories of our brave men and women who served our country in uniform, and we will do so in a sustainable way," said Founder and President Jan C. Scruggs.

The Wall That Heals in Orlando: A Chance to Reflect and Remember

The Wall That Heals, a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, recently visited Lake Eola Park in Orlando, Florida as part of its nationwide tour in 2012, promoting the healing of many Vietnam veterans who still carry the scars of war.

On Saturday, January 21, VVMF hosted a National Call for Photos event, urging citizens to collect and submit photographs of the more than 58,000 names inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  To date, VVMF has collected nearly 30,000 photos.

VVMF Founder and President Jan C. Scruggs is interviewed by a local news agency at The Wall That Heals event in Orlando, Florida

In attendance was the Mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer, and his Veterans Advisory Council Chairman, Paul Hay, as well as VVMF Founder and President Jan C. Scruggs.

The successful event collected more than 50 photographs of Orlando-area heroes, and would not have been possible without the generous support of the people of central Florida.
