  • Item Summary:Two (2) service identification tags, also referred to as, "dog tags". One (1) of the dog tags is a military issue, U.S. Air Force tag for Air Force veteran "DUMIAK / WILLIAM J", while the remaining dog tag is a non-military issue, commemorative Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Inc. (VFW) tag bearing the VFW organizational logo and the phrases, "VFW / WE NEVER FORGET" engraved upon the obverse surface. The artifacts were left at The Wall affixed to a metal ball chain by William J. Dumiak in May 2011.

  • Item Summary:Wooden Christian cross dedicated to U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Joseph Leslie Hart, U.S. Navy Lieutenant (LT) Orville Dale Cooley, U.S. Army Warrant Officer 1 (WO1) Thomas William Skiles, U.S. Army Second Lieutenant (2LT) Gilbert Byron Bush, & U.S. Army Specialist 4 (SP4) Gary James Fuqua. The dedication, "TO MY WYOMING BROTHERS" is handwritten upon the patibulum (or horizontal member of the cross) at the obverse surface. The artifact was left at The Wall along with five (5) non-military issue, commemorative service identification tags (VIVE (5866 - 5870)) & a printed note (VIVE (35315)) by a donor identified only as, "WYOMING BROTHER" between January - April 1990.

THE NAME TAG BEARS THE NAME, TITLE, & VFW POST IDENTIFICATION, "STEPHANIE J. LEWIS / SURGEON / POST 3238 / CAMDEN / DELAWARE / VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS" ENGRAVED IN RECESSED, BLACK, BLOCK LETTERING/ARABIC NUMERALS ALONG THE UPPER EDGE, PROPER LEFT-HAND SIDE, AND LOWER EDGE OF THE OBVERSE OBJECT SURFACE. A RED/WHITE/BLUE ENAMEL & GOLD COLORED METAL DEVICE REPRESENTING THE VFW ORGANIZATIONAL LOGO (I.E. Items left at The Wall - The Virtual Collection

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated on November 13, 1982. Shortly thereafter, visitors to the Memorial began leaving items in memoriam to those killed and missing service members listed on The Wall. These artifacts now collectively comprise the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Collection -- a museum collection of more than 400,000 items held in the public trust by the National Park Service. Today, this Collection is among the largest and most actively researched collections in the National Capital Region.

The Collection is jointly curated by National Mall and Memorial Parks and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF). The VVMF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies upon public donations to continue its work, and receives no federal funding.
